Paintings, prints and drawings

The enigmatic scenarios are painted in oil on canvas, with a technique partly based on the old master's recipes. Edvarda has evolved a highly personal and evocative symbolic figuration in her paintings. Her visual universe is narratives of visions and dreams. Erotic metamorphosis, ambiguity and accident are everywhere evident in her works.

The artist’s criteria for her artistic processes:

  • Time - The painting needs time, every single painting has its fermentation time. The process must not be hastened, but needs to evolve naturally. It is important to paint slowly!
  • Precision – Every part of the painting must fit its surroundings on a formal level. Light, colour, lines, ornamentation and perspective must work together in a dynamic dialogue.
  • Imagination and joy of creation – The finished painting must be an expression of a thrilling imagination and the joy of having created an image slowly sprung from mind and hand. Edvarda has developed a unique technique where parts of the recipe are taken from the old masters and the way they constructed a painting. The paintings are made with glazing, i.e. layers upon layers of thin paint. The result is a painting with a shiny surface with bright colours

Painting is a Craft

The need to create a painting with a high degree of craftsmanship is a central aspect of Edvarda’s art. She finds the material presence of a well worked-through oil painting attractive and beautiful. Her studies of Renaissance art combined with numerous stays in Italy have been decisive for the formal concepts she herself has developed in her paintings
